Welcome to the second preview of Quasimodo's Christmas Caper, a brand new C64 game being developed by myself (Robert Wilson). This game is a spin-off game to Hunchback Redux (currently in development) featuring Quasimodo. It has been a few weeks since the first preview went out, I would have liked to have got this out sooner - but several things got in the way unfortunately. This is a preview of v0.63 of the game so far. I had to refactor a lot of the code to allow more frames of sprite animation to be included. It means, I now have 3 types of elves. Basic walking elves, flying elves and elves with snowball guns! The flying elves are not shown in this demo, as they will be made available in later levels and not the first four levels which are previewed here. You see briefly an elf with a snowball gun at level 4, but he doesn't fire it. Also, there will be more to just collecting stars in each level. Once collected you need to obtain a special item, before moving onto the next level. I've added a few sounds into the game - I'm slowly getting to grips with GoatTracker, as I'm not familiar with it, it has cost me a bit of development time and integrating it into the game. You will now here sounds when Quasimodo jumps or when the elves first appear and when they unfreeze themselves if you've bumped into one by mistake. The majority of the time taken recently, has been the linking of each level and adding the level complete and get ready messages etc. Also, Quasimodo's respawn routine was causing me a bit of a headache switching the sprites on and off, given how all the other sprites are handled in the multiplex zones and in the vertical borders. I finally got a working solution to it, I just need to add a few more sounds here and there. There's no music as of yet. I will try to get some level complete and game over jingles included for the next release. With the first deadline fast approaching, the first release may not have any title music or in-game music. It will be added in releases after that. Other things to note, the collectables are not in random positions at the moment - they will be for the final release. I've also started work on a timer element as you may notice at the top of the screen. This is not active and is just counting down at the moment for test purposes. The first version to be released will be for C64 PAL systems, followed by an NTSC release and then a C128 native build.More updates to come, please like and subscribe to be kept up to date.
